5 Great Fall Activities To Do With Your Kids

Fall is almost here which means cooler weather, colorful leaves, pumpkin spice everything, and of course… the perfect excuse to slow down and enjoy some intentional family time.

One of the best ways to make the most of the season is to start planning now, so you’re ready to enjoy every crisp, cozy moment. To help, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite family-friendly fall activities that are simple, fun, and totally memory-worthy!

1. Decorate for the Season

Most families decorate for holidays, but seasonal decorating is its own kind of magic especially in the fall.

This is the perfect time to add a little warmth and autumn charm to your home. Think:

  • Pumpkins on the porch

  • A DIY fall wreath for the door

  • Faux leaves, pinecones, and acorns for tabletops

  • Cozy plaid throws and scented candles inside

Let the kids help you pick out decor or make some of their own! (Painted pumpkins, anyone?) You’ll be surprised how much fun they have transforming the home with you. Need ideas? Pinterest is full of fall inspiration.

2. Pick Apples & Pack a Picnic

Apple picking is the classic fall activity and it’s always a hit with kids (even if they need a boost to reach the good ones).

Make a full day of it by packing a picnic! Toss some sandwiches, fruit, cider, and a cozy blanket into a basket and enjoy lunch right there in the orchard.

Not only is this a great bonding experience, but you’ll leave with farm-fresh apples you can use for pies, crisps, or homemade applesauce.

3. Go on a Scenic Drive or Hike

Fall leaves don’t last forever so soak them up while you can!

Load up the car and head out for a scenic drive through the countryside or the mountains. If your family’s up for it, stop along the way for a short hike. Even just a walk through a nearby nature trail can be a breath of fresh air.

Pro tip: Bring a bag or basket and collect colorful leaves, pinecones, or interesting acorns to use for crafts later.

4. Plan a Family Fall Photoshoot

Fall is one of the most photogenic seasons, so it’s the perfect time to update your family photos!

Whether you hire a professional or DIY it, choose a pretty outdoor location with lots of foliage and golden light. Matching outfits or cozy neutrals can make your pictures pop and don’t forget to bring a few fall props like pumpkins or blankets.

These photos make great holiday cards or gifts for grandparents, too!

5. Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkin patches aren’t just for pumpkins anymore they’ve become full-on fall festivals!

Many local patches offer:

  • Hayrides

  • Corn mazes

  • Farm animals

  • Cider stands

  • Mini markets with homemade goodies

Your kids will love picking out their perfect pumpkin and you’ll love the photo ops. Just be sure to wear comfortable shoes. These places are meant to be explored!

Final Thoughts

There’s something magical about fall! It invites us to slow down, make memories, and spend more intentional time with our families. Whether you try just one or all of these activities, I hope they help you and your little ones savor every golden moment of the season.
